Today, we announced that Luma has acquired Tonic, a leading provider in patient intake, check-in, e-consents, and patient-reported outcomes. This acquisition comes as Luma grows rapidly to support over 100 million patients in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada, including partnerships with NextGen Healthcare, Greenway Health, and Nextech and deep deployments across the leading ambulatory and acute EHRs. We’re thrilled to welcome the Tonic team to Luma, and to work together to reduce manual work for healthcare staff while getting patients ready for care more efficiently.
Luma and Tonic were both founded on a simple belief: getting care shouldn’t be hard. We’ve each tackled that challenge for patients and staff – Luma by streamlining patient access, communication, and readiness across the care continuum, and Tonic by rethinking how patients check in, share information, and prepare for their visits. Now, we’ll bring those strengths together to make care more accessible for patients, and more manageable for staff.
Advancing Oracle Health Integration
This acquisition demonstrates Luma’s commitment to deep integration with Oracle Health. Since its founding in 2010, Tonic has established a significant footprint serving healthcare organizations using Oracle Health EHRs. Luma has also worked to deeply integrate with Oracle Health, achieving Oracle-validated integration that allows our customers to reach outcomes like:
- Over a month sooner care for patients who use the Luma waitlist at Maury Regional Health.
- “Text the CEO” feedback workflow enterprise-wide at Banner Health (125+ locations).
- 26% fewer no-shows within one year at SJ Health.
Tonic will continue to be available for Oracle Health customers through the Oracle consumer framework, and we look forward to continuing to innovate together to create technology that addresses operational challenges for health systems using Oracle Health.
Advancing Patient Readiness
Both the Luma and Tonic teams have invested in technology that makes preparing patients for their visits simpler for staff – without extra staff work. At Luma, we refer to these workflows as “patient readiness,” encompassing not only bi-directional forms and automated outreach but all the steps staff typically take to get patients ready for care. With Luma, today hundreds of healthcare organizations already:
- Dynamically manage patient flow and queues.
- Let patients save a place in line and receive automated updates via SMS.
- Reach groups of patients during inclement weather or provider outages, with individual links to reschedule.
- Review a patient’s uploaded insurance card and check insurance eligibility.
- Adjust copays and remind patients to pay before their visits.
- Collect forms and information, like PHQ-9 forms, bi-directionally integrated with the EHR.
- Let patients check in remotely or by tablet or kiosk in the clinic.
- Follow up with patients after their visits with reminders, requests for feedback, or recalls.
Together, the combined Luma and Tonic team will co-develop new solutions together that make patient readiness, and the rest of the patient journey, simpler and more efficient for both patients and staff.
